The Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field Championships took place this past weekend at the Stadium Richard-Garneau in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. Team New Brunswick had it's best showing since the meet became an open competition in 2009   - Hannah Trites of Fredericton won bronze in the midget girl's 2000m with a time of 6:30.38, breaking Luisa Schwarz's provincial record set at the 2012 Legions where Schwarz won silver in the event. Amazingly, Trites had crossed the line fourth but after the disqualification of one of the athlete's, Trites was moved up to the bronze medal position. Trites had also finished 8th in the 1200m with a time of 3:43.97, just 0.48 of a second off her own provincial record set earlier this season.   - Lexie Shannon of Fredericton won silver in the midget girl's triple jump with a best jump of 10.89m, just 7cm ahead of the bronze medalist.   - Laura Dickinson of Miamichi won bronze in the youth girl's 2000m steeplechase with a time of 7:02.48. This breaks her own provincial record of 7:23.84 set at the Atlantic Championships just two weeks ago.   - Kyla Hughes of Cocagne won bronze in the midget girl's shot put with a best throw of 12.83m, breaking her own provincial record of 12.70m set earlier this season.   - Melissa Pellerin of Dieppe won silver in the youth girl's javelin throw with a best throw of 41.68m, over a meter and a half ahead of the bronze medalist!   Mickyle Welsh of Riverview won bronze in the midget boy's 100m with a time of 11.28, and finished 7th in the 200m with a time of 23.40. Both Mickyle's 100m and 200m times broke the former provincial record held by Gabriel LeBlanc since 2000.   - Cole Healey of Saint John won bronze in the midget boy's 1500m steeplechase 4:39.00. This performance was less than 4 seconds off Paul Tremblay's provincial record of 4:35.25 set at the 2012 Legions where he also won bronze.   The midget boy's relay team consisting of Mickyle Welsh of Riverview, Cole Healey and Kenneth McGovern of Saint John, and Guillaume Savoie of Neguac accomplished an incredible double, winning silver in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.19, and bronze in the medley relay with a time of 3:49.85.   Other results include:   - Sophie Black of Dieppe finished fourth in the midget girl's pentathlon with a score of 2970, breaking her own provincial record set earlier this season.   - Clint Steeves of Riverglade finished 8th in the finals of the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.07, but ran a time of 15.03 in the prelims to break his own provincial record set earlier this summer.   - Jack Berkshire ran the fastest time in the prelims of the youth boy's 400m with a time of 49.89, and finished in the finals with a time of 49.75.
