Jun 28 2015 - East Coast Games Track and Field Highlights


The first East Coast Games were held in Saint John over the weekend with fine weather conditions prevailing. Track events ran Friday evening under the lights at the Canada Games Stadium while field events were held on Saturday. During the medal presentation ceremony Saturday evening, St. John Track Club’s Brady Graves and Victoria LeBlanc received the East Coast Games male and female, Track and Field athletes of the meet awards.

Victoria won gold in long jump (5.17m), 200m (27.51) and 100m hurdles (15.17) with Brady running a fast 1500m in a time of 3:59.45 for a first place finish.

It was a good day at the track for several athletes competing in the master’s category. Several new master records fell during these games at the track:

Paul Gautier of the SJTC had a very successful meet, setting four new master records in shot put (13.91m), discus (40.82m), hammer (38.43m) and weight throw (16.08m).

Sharon Peabody of the St John Track Club set a new record in triple jump with a distance of 6.00m and in the javelin with a toss of 12.74.

Merab Klein of the SJTC set a new 100m masters’ record in a time of 16.85s, destroying the previous record of 19.52 set in 2012.

David Jefferson of SJTC broke his own shot put record with a throw of 8.48m and the long jump record wit ha jump of 3.22m.

Fredericton’s Andrew Justason’s 1.65m height in the high jump set a new master record and in 110m hurdle in a time of 17.76s!.

Adrienne Cameron broke two masters record with a 22.83s 100m dash and a 1.97m long jump!


Other notable track and field performances saw ASEA’s Mickyle Welsh run a strong 100m (11.55) and 200m (23.53). Fredericton’s Jon Gionet threw well for a distance of 14.38m in senior men’s shot put. Both Sara-Eve Noel and Elizabeth MacDonald performed well in the hammer with throws of 41.54m and 54.34m respectively.

Jun 7 2015 - NBIAA Provincial Track and Field Championships Recap

The NBIAA Provincial Track and Field Championships took place at Canada Games Stadium in Saint John this weekend and athletes did not fail to impress. Rainy and sunny conditions emerged throughout the day as athletes competed for medals and team titles. 6 NBIAA records were set at the event.

- Victoria LeBlanc of Saint John High School set NBIAA records in both the senior girl's 100mh and 400mh with times of 16.15 and 65.88, respectively. These times surpass the former NBIAA records of 16.27 held by Sydney MacDonald from last year's championships, and Erica Docuet's 2004 performance of 67.48. LeBlanc also captured the long jump title with a best of 4.91m.



''We saw some great performances from our high school athletes ' said Gabriel LeBlanc Technical Director of Athletics New Brunswick '' We were also able to identify some new athletes that have potential to make our provincial teams and who knows maybe some futur stars'' added LeBlanc


Fredericton High School won the AAA championship banner with a score of 314.5 while Bonar Law High School won the AA champion banner with a score of 273.5, and École Quatre Vent won the A banner with a score of 58.5.
