Jan 22 2015 - Jason Reindl Selected as Head Coach for 2017 Canada Games

Congratulations to club coach Jason Reindl. On Tuesday January 22nd Athletics New Brunswick proudly announced that Jason Reindl has been selected as head coach for Team New Brunswick at the 2017 Canada Games, to be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba from July 28th - August 13th. This edition of the games is set to be a landmark event as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games, and the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

 

Jason holds as a wealth of knowledge as the High Performance Coach for Athletics New Brunswick, a coach at Saint John Track Club, and Head Coach for the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. Since being named head coach at UNB, the team has made incredible strides under Jason's leadership increasing its standing in the AUS both in points and medals, and qualifying athletes to the CIS Track and Field Championships.

 

Jason holds first hand experience as a former athlete as well, setting provincial records, winning several Legion and junior medals, and representing Saskatchewan at the 2005 Canada Games.

 

Jason brings an incredible passion for our sport’’ said Gabriel LeBlanc, technical director for Athletics New Brunswick.  ‘’ We are coming off our best ever Canada games in 2013 and we are sure with Jason leadership  our 2017 has potential to do even better, added LeBlanc.

Jan 18 2015 - New Brunswick track and field Athletes shine in Halifax

New Brunswick track and field Athletes shine in Halifax

This past Saturday while the Moncton Open Track Meet was taking place in Moncton, a strong team of University of New Brunswick/SJTC athletes headed to Halifax to compete in the Athletics Nova Scotia Indoor Open.   The athletes had very notable results, including 4 provincial records!
  

- Artabaz Nazari of Saint John, competing for the University of New Brunswick, ran a fast 60, finishing 2nd with a time of 7.13. This times ranks Artabaz 4th in the AUS in the event. 
- Dan Brown of Hampton, competing for the University of New Brunswick, won the 300m with a time of 36.07 and placed 3rd in the 600m with a time of 1:22.84. Both of these performances rank Dan second in the AUS. 
- Matt McNeil of Saint John, competing for the Dalhousie University, ran two great races, winning the 3000m event with a time of 8:42.69 and winning by almost 10 seconds among a strong field of runners, and placing 3rd in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.59. McNeil, a gold medalist in the 3000m at last year's AUS Championships, is currently ranked 2nd in the AUS for the 3000m, and 3rd in the 1500m.

- Josh Shanks showed he is rounding into form with an 8.52 in the 3000m and a strong showing in the 1000m.

Jan 17 2015 - Moncton Open

Moncton Open Recap

The 7th annual Jump Start Athletics Moncton Open, hosted by the Universite de Moncton and ASEA track club, took place this past Saturday at the CEPS indoor track. 9 masters records were set, and there were many great performances by athletes, including:
 


- David Jefferson of Saint John broke his own master 70-75 60m record with a time of 10.46, breaking his former record of 10.56 set in 2014. He also set a record in the 60m Hurdle with 14.18. 

 

- Brady Graves took home two wins with a season best int he 1500m and PB in the 800m.

Jan 4 2015 - Athlete Education Sessions

New for 2015: Athlete Education Sessions

Starting Tuesday January 6th, HP Coach Jason Reindl will be leading a series of classroom sessions this indoor season.  The focus of these sessions will be on education and giving athletes a more comprehensive athlete development experience.   Sessions are for athletes 13 years of age and over but no one will be turned away.

6:45-7:45pm in the G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre Classroom #108 (just above the gym) following Tuesday practices on select days.  Worksheets will be handed out on occasion however, athletes are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen to jot down notes.  As this takes place following evening practices athletes are encouraged to bring food, drink, and other snacks.

 January 6th - Planning: Failing to plan is planning to Fail

 January 13th - Routines: Consistency and Importance of Sleep

 February 3rd - Competition: Warm Ups and Energy

 February 24th - Recovery and Regeneration

 March 3rd - TBD

 March 17th - TBD

 There is no cost to attend these sessions as it is part of the club fees.
