This past weekend the Université de Moncton hosted the 2013 Subway AUS Track and Field Championships sponsored at the indoor track at CEPS. UNB Athletes and a number of other SJTC athletes had amazing performances with this being one of the most exciting AUS championships, where numerous provincial, school, and AUS records were set.
On the women's side:
- Alexandra Black of Yoho Lake (UNB) won the shot put and threw to a new senior provincial record and AUS record with a throw of 12.58m.
- Sarah Myatt of Fredericton, competing for UNB, won the 600m and 1000m in a time of 1:36.02 and 3:03.46 respectively.
-Nathalie Cecire of Fredericton competing for UNB finished 2nd in the 1000m with a time of 3:04.60
-Tatyana Shmatlay of Kazakhstan but competing for UNB finished 2nd in the Women’s High jump with a leap of 1m55.
On the men's side:
- Matt McNeil, of Saint John competing for Dalhousie, placed 2nd in the 1500m and 3000m in times of 3:59.63 and 8:34.02 respectively.
-David Kerr a rookie for UNB from Fredericton finished 3rd in the Weight throw with a throw of 11,39.
"These performance are truly outstanding for our New Brunswick athletes" said Gabriel LeBlanc, Technical Director for Athletics New Brunswick. "These new records constantly show that New Brunswick athletes are getting better and better each year, with more athletes competing on the national stage than ever before."

Feb 17 2013 - SJTC athletes shine at Provincial Championships
This past Saturday New Brunswick over 170 athletes competed in the NB Indoor provincial championships in Oromocto. Originally this competition was schedule for last week but due to the snow storm had to be moved. The meet had great performances and an astonishing 20 provincial records were broken, with many other wonderful performances.
-Paul Gautier of Rothesay and member of Saint Jon Track Club broke his own M45 record with a throw of 12m69.
-Alex Coffin of Saint John broke the men’s 45-50 1500m record with a time of 4:37.53.
-Bill MacMackin of Quispamsis (Saint John Track) set records in the M45 category first in the 300m with a time of 45.75 and in then in the 600m with a time of 1:48.03.
-Dave Jefferson (Saint John Track) of Saint John set a new record in the M65 in the weight throw with a toss of 10.33m.
-Nick MacMackin of Quismpasis (Saint John Track) who set a new field house record in the 800m running a time of 1:54.55, this time also ranks him 3rd in Canada among juniors. He also won the junior 1500m with a time of 4:02.48.
-Josh Shanks of Lepreau won the youth boys 1500m (4:05.81)and the 3000m (8:44.77) he is currently ranked 4th and 2nd in these events in Canada.
The overall Championship team titles went to the Fredericton Legion Track Club with 400 points edging out the Saint John Track Club who scored 379, Fredericton Fast Track was 3rd with 199 points.
Next Saturday & Sunday in Moncton will be the Atlantic University Sport Championships in Moncton . The event wil also host a few open events on Saturday morning for club athletes. This event will feature the best University Athletes in Atlantic who will try to qualify for the CIS National Championships that will take place March 7-9 in Edmonton.
The next major championships for the most athletes will be the Atlantic Championships that will take place in Moncton on March 16th.
