Indoor Track Program Starts January 9, 2011

Starting in January, the Saint John Track Club will once again provide bi-weekly training sessions in two locations. For children ages 8-10 we offer the Run-Jump-Throw program as an introduction to the events of track and field with a focus on fun & fitness. Athletes age 11 and up will work on general fitness, strength training and technique for indoor competitions. Athletes are welcome to attend one or both of the sessions held each week.

Nov 27 2010 - Canadian Cross Country Champs - Guelph, Ontario

National Cross Country:

At the National Cross Country Championships at Guelph on Saturday, New Brunswick had a very strong showing. Two NBers qualified for the World Cross Country Championships and most of the NBers had improved results over last year. Barry Britt of Hampton attends Idaho State University and finished 7th in the Senior Men's Category. Genevieve Lalonde of Moncton attends Guelph Universoty and finished 7th in the Senior Women's Category. Both will be travelling to Spain in 2011 to represent Canada at the Worlds. In the Junior Girls Category, Grace Annear finished in 57th spot out of 164 finishers.  In the Junior Boys Category, Jeremie Pellerin finished 44th, Matthew McNeil finished 70th, Lee Wesselius finished 95th, Ian Forbes finished 117th, and Scott McMullin finished 166th out of 196 finishers. Ryan Cassidy had worked his way up to 11th place but had to drop out later before the finish. Former Olympian Joel Bourgeois finished 18th in the Senior Men's Category. Alex Coffin finished 5th in the Master's Category.
 


Nov 22 2010 - Gagetown Invitational 2010

Quigg Brothers Set Records at Gagetown Invitational

Oromocto N.B., November 20, 2010: Seventeen members from the Saint John Track Club competed at the Gagetown Indoor Track Invitational last weekend.

Brothers, Mitch and Riley Quigg set provincial records at the event. Riley established a new mark in the Bantam Boys Shot Put with a toss of 12.46 meters breaking the old records over 50cm. Not to be outdone by his little brother, Mitch Quigg broke the junior boys 60m hurdle record with a time of 8.87.Mitch also went on to win the junior boys Shot Put.

The brother sister team of Ashley and Anthony Cormier were also multi event winners. Ashley posted wins in the girls 11 & under high jump and shot put. Anthony was the winner of the Boys 12-13 60m, 150m and Long Jump.

The club saw 3 additional double event winners with Cole Healey winning the boys 11 & under 150m and long jump, Matt McNeil winning the Youth, boys 16-17 800m & 1500m, Ben Fowler won the Midget boys 14-15 high jump & 60m Hurdles and

SJTC Athletes had a strong showing at the 2010 ANB Awards Dinner.

Katie Robinson – Co-Winner of the Top Midget for Girls

Nick MacMackin – Winner of the Top Midget for Boys

Barry Britt – Top Male Junior Cross Country Runner

Caleb Jones – Top Junior Male

Nov 15 2010 - Pitney Bowes Sport Awards

This Saturday was the Sport NB Pitney Bowes Sport Awards. Athletics was the sport with the most nomination with 7 and we did not disappoint! Athletics New Brunswick had 5 winners. First of the President award (best junior athlete ) went to Adam Gaudes (FFT), the Spirit of Sport award went to Rilind Dragoshi (ASEA). The Boston Pizza male Coach of the Year went to Joel Bourgeois (O2) and for the first time ever of these awards both the Male and female Athlete award went to athletes from the same sport with Geneviève Lalonde (O2) winning the Comfort Inn Female Athlete of the Year and Caleb Jones (SJTC) winning the Comfort Inn male Athlete of the Year. Also we have to mention Cassidy Richards who won the president female award for swimming but is also one of the top ANB athletes. Congratulation to all the nominees and winners.
