Oct 24 2009 - 2009 NB Middle Schools Cross Country Championship

The 4th annual NB Middle School XC Championships were held at River Valley Middle School on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Cold and rainy weather impacted the turnout but many schools from across New Brunswick were represented in the races for girls and boys in grades 6, 7 and 8. Runners competed for individual and team honors in each grade division and Over All Provincial Championships were awarded to the schools with the top 6 placings in boys and girls.   George St. Middle School of Fredericton dominated the meet with their teams winning 4 of the 6 grade level events on their way to capturing both the Boys & Girls Overall Championships.   Saint John area runners continued their strong showing this year with Josh Shanks of Fundy Shores School (& SJTC) capping off an undefeated season by winning the Grade 8 boys race, his second year as a provincial champion. In the grade 6 girls division, Harry Miller’s Sarah Kean edged out Samuel de Champlain’s (& SJTC's) Danielle Dumouchel with the girls coming in first and second. Harry Miller team mate, Rachel Forestell placed second in the Grade 8 girls. Will Bower of Princess Elizabeth ran a gutsy race finishing second in the Grade 7 Boys and Nick Ellingwood of Quispamsis Middle placed 3rd in Grade 6 boys. SJTC's Victoria Leblanc, running for Bayside placed 6th in the Grade 7 Girls and Alec Alston runing for RVMS placed 5th in the Grade 7 Boys .   FULL school, individual and team results by grade.

Oct 17 2009 - NBIAA Provincial X-Country Championship

The NBIAA XC Champs were held in O'dell Park, Frederiction on October 17. Individual results, as well as team scores have been posted in the ANB Results section for each of the Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Senior Girls and Senior Boys races. Fredericton High School once again dominated, winning the team banners in all sections. SJTC runners did very well winning 3 of the 4 races and all our runners competing strongly for their high schools.

Most of the races had fields nearing 100 runners making it the biggest meet of the season. Katie Robinson ran well to win the Jr Girls race along with team-mate Alexandra Coffin who placed 27th with a really strong performance on the hills. Nick MacMackin won the Jr Boys race followed by Reid Burrows in 6th and James Parks in 21st. In the Senior Girls race, Grace Annear was victorious over a strong field in her first year as a senior. Senior boys had the toughest and strongest field of the day and at the finish a mere 11 seconds separated first to fourth. Matt McNeill ran strongly throughout to finish fourth and Tom Butler ran his best race of the year to finish 7th. This was fantastic running by the entire SJTC squad, demonstrating that the seasons training and all that hill work has paid off!
