Oct 25 2008 - Atlantic Cross Country –Moncton

Saint John area athletes competed in the Atlantic Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Moncton. It was the largest Atlantic Champs in 10 years with over 200 competitors. Congratulations go to Gabe Leblanc for organizing such a great event.   The SJTC team of Nick MacMackin (1st), Reid Burrows (2nd), Louis Richard (3rd), Josh Shanks(4th) and Peter Banks(10th) all placed in the top 10 and swept the top 4 positions to become Atlantic Team Champions in the bantam age group. For Nick his win in this event tops off an unbeaten XC season.   Katie Robinson of the SJ Track Club continued her winning streak and ended her season undefeated with a win in the Girls 12-13 2500m race.   Janica Schoefield of Ecole Samuel de Champlain won the Girls age 6-9 1000m run leading the Samuel de Champlain team to victory.  Her team members were Romye Bouchard, Mia Ming Brideau, Ashley Cormier and Gabriella Donovan. In the mens 14-15 3500m race Matt McNeil ran to a strong second place finish. All finishes for Saint John area athletes are shown below (hope we did not miss any one). Oct 18 2008 - NB Middle Schools Cross Country Championships

The 3rd annual NB Middle School XC Championships were held at River Valley Middle School on Saturday, October 18, 2008. 190 youth representing schools from across New Brunswick competed in races for girls and boys in grades 6, 7 and 8. Over All Provincial Championships were awarded to schools for their top 6 placing across all three grade divisions in boys and girls.   Harry Miller Middle School won the Boys Overall Championship and George St. Middle School was the Girls Overall Champion.   Congratulations to club members Katie Robinson       - 1st in Grade 8 Girls Josh Shanks          – 1st in Grade 7 Boys Nick MacMackin     - 1st in Grade 8 Boys Reid Burrows         - 2nd in Grade 8 Boys Alec Alston             - 2nd in Grade 6 Boys   For Nick and Katie the wins in the Grade 8 races left them undefeated in the 2008 school cross country season. They also hold the distinction of winning provincial cross country championships for three years in a row in grades 6, 7 and 8.   Schools & runners competed for individual and team honors in each grade division. Oct 16 2008 - J.D. Irving Invitational

          J.D. Irving Invitational

Elementary School Cross Country Meet 414 Elementary School athletes from across Southern New Brunswick came together to compete at the 4th Invitational Cross Country Meetat the J.D. Irving Ltd Park in West Saint John. This meet marked the end of the local Elementary School cross country season for area schools. This year boasted the largest turnout ever with exciting individual races and team competitions. Individual and team results are available below. Elementary School Results


Oct 12 2008 - Island View Eagles 5 km

Matt McNeil continued with his strong running at the Island View 5km. His 2nd place finish (first place for the 19 & under age group) of 17:02 was over a minute faster than his time a few weeks back at the Marathon by the Sea 5km. Well done Matt. Reid Burrows also ran strongly with a 7th place finish over all (3rd in the 19 & U age group)   Katie Robinson chalked up another strong race with a 5th place finish (4th place for the 19 & under age group) in a time of 20:58 which was also faster than her M by the Sea time.   Other club athletes competing were Will Bartlett, Pierre Dumouchel, Dallas Casey, Paul Tremblay, Emily Sheils, Davis Sullivan, Alyssa Goguen, Isabella Nickerson. Oct 9 2008 - District 6 XC Championships

Club athletes competed in the District 6 Cross Country Championships in Sussex.   In the Grade 6 Girls event Brenna Kettlewell placed 1st followed by Evynn Topolinsky in 2nd place. For the boys Grade 8 race Nick MacMackin added another win to his season with a 1st place finish followed closely by Carter Chase in 3rd and Liam Kettlewell in 4th.   Congratulations to everyone.


Oct 8 2008 - District 8 XC Championships

A number of club athletes competed in the district 8 Cross Country Championships.   In the Grade 6 boys four of the top 6 places were captured by SJTC runners with Alec Alston in 2nd, Dallas Casey in 3rd, Paul Tremblay in 5th and Anthony Cormier in 6th.  The Grade 7 boys race saw a similar story with Josh Shanks in 1st, Will Bartlett in 4th and Ben Fowler in 6th. In the final boys’ event for Grade 8, Reid Burrows lead the field with a 1st place finish.   For the SJTC girls, Norah Emerson ran strongly to place 6th in the Grade 7 Girls event. Katie Robinson continued her streak of wins to place first in the Grade 8 girls with Alex Coffin placing a strong 5th.   Congratulations to everyone and good luck at this week’s Provincial Middle School Champs.   


Oct 5 2008 - District 1 Cross Country Meet:

Local SJTC members, Anthony and Ashley Cormier as well as Mia Brideau competed in the District 1 Cross Country race on October 4th at the Moncton Rotary Park.     Anthony ran a 1.5 km and placed 1st in the 10/11 year olds with a time of 7:30.  He won the race with a sprint finish over the last 100 meters. Mia and Ashley ran in the 8/9 year olds with Mia placing 5th in a time of 5:57 and Ashley placing 13th in a time of 6:35. Way to go!!!
