Feb 24 2014 - Britt competes at NACAC Cross Country Championships

The North American, Central American, and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships took place this past Saturday in Mount Irvine, Trinidad and Tobago. On the team were New Brunswickers Ryan Cassidy of Grande-Digue, and Barry Britt of Hampton, both representing the senior men's team.

Both qualified for the event from their 4th and 5th placings at the Canadian Cross Country Championships in November. Cassidy was the top Canadian coming into the event, followed by Britt.

Britt was able to finish the 8km cross country course in a time of 24:40.70 to finish 4th overall and first for the Canadians. Team Canada placed 2nd overall behind the United States. Cassidy was unable to finish the race due to a foot injury.

Teammates Kyle O'Neil, Theo Hunt, and Saheed Khan finished 6th, 8th, and 12th respectively.

"I was pretty pleased with my race. My goal was to be top three overall and to be a low stick for Canada. I came close to 3rd and I was proud of how I battled on that hot and hilly course," said Britt. "As always it was an absolute thrill and honour to represent Canada."
