Shanks and Robinson win Atlantic Cross Country Races
Atlantic Cross Country Championships – Fredericton, N.B. – Oct 29th, 2011
Saint John area athletes competed in the Atlantic Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Fredericton.
The Saint John Track Club members showed outstanding strength with Josh Shanks and Katie Robinson winning their divisions and repeating as Atlantic champions for the second year in a row. Also giving strong performances were Cole Healey who placed second in the Boys 11 & under division, Sarah Kean second in the 13 and under girls and Paul Tremblay placing third in the 15 & under age group.
Oct 29 2011 - Atlantic University Cross Country
Congrats to Matt McNeil who ran to a 3rd place finish in the AUS championships in Fredericton.
Matt was a member of the Dal Tigers team that placed second to St Francis Xavier. His time of 32.32.1 for the 10km course was a 10km personal best.
Matt was also selected as Dal's Athlete of the Week! Well Done Matt! Good Luck at the CIS National Champs

Oct 14 2011 - NBIAA XC Provincial Champs
The NBIAA capped off Cross Country season with the Provincial Champs on Oct 14th.
The SJHS team won the Senior Boys Provincial titles at the NBIAA cross country running championships beating the second place team by only 3 points with the help of some strong SJ Track Club athletes. The Provincial Champion Senior Boys team included club members Nick MacMackin in 2nd place He was followed in 6th place by Reid Burrows, 8th place Andrew Vail, Ben Adams in 17thand James Parks in 25th.
In the Senior Girls the SJHS team missed out on the banner by a single point however showed outstanding strength against the deep field. They were led by club member Katie Robinson in first place repeating her win for the third straight year. She was closely followed by other SJTC atletes Hannah Arsenault in 3rd, Victoria Leblanc in 12th, Jill Small in 14th, Norah Emerson and Alex Coffin.
In Junior Boys SJTC members also showed their strength with Josh Shanks in 1st and Paul Tremblay in 3rd. Also running strongly was Dallas Casey in 13th place.
Oct 9 2011 - Gina Spear-Burrows finishes 4th in age group at IronMan Kona, Hawaii - World Champs
Way to go Gina!
A special congratulations to Gina Spear Burrows of Grand Bay-Westfield who competed on October 8th at the World Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Gina competed in the Female aged 45-49 age group and placed 4th...In the World! Way to go Gina.
For those unfamiliar with the distances, the race starts with a 2.4 Mile swim in the ocean off the island coast, then moves to a 112 mile bike and finally a 26.2 (full marathon) run. Gina was in 30th place following the swim, moved up to 17th on her bike then ran the fastest marathon (3hr 40.56 min) in her age group to be in 4th place in the Female 45-49 group at the finish. He total race time was 10 hrs 52.01 minutes!
Gina, as most of you know is mom to long time club member Reid Burrows but was also a SJ Track Club Alumni who competed in hurdles and sprints in her youth.
Oct 8 2011 - NBIAA SW Regional Meet
NBIAA SW Regional Champs - Great performances by club members.
A special congratulations to all our club members who competed at the SW regional XC event this weekend in St George. Of the four races on Saturday, three were won by SJTC members and we had numerous other top 10 finishes.
Jr Girls - Emily Carr 24th, Jordyn Garnett 27th and Jane Annear 30th as part of the 2nd place Hamption High Team
Sr Girls- Winner was Katie Robinson, 2nd place Hannah Arsenault, 7th place by Victoria Leblanc and Norah Emerson 34th as members of the winning SJHS Girls team.Also in 17th Bridget Flood, Hailey Guzik in 28th & Claire Flood in 33rd of the Rothesay High team which placed 3rd.
Jr Boys - The race was won by Josh Shanks, Paul Tremblay 2nd, Dallas Casey was 12th, Ryan White was 24th and Mathew Sullivan was 30th.
Sr Boys - Nick MacMackin was the winner, Reid Burrows was 3rd, Ben Adams in 6th, Andrew Vail in 10th and James Parks in 23rd all members of the winning SJHS Senior Boys team.
Next Friday in Fredericton all of these runners plus many of their school team mates will race at the provincials championships against the qualifing teams and athletes of the North East Region. Good luck to all of you.

SJTC Members had strong performances in Oromocto at the ANB Cross Country Extravaganza.

Oct 1 2011 - University News from away - SJTC Athletes Competing well for their Universities
Barry Britt - University of Idaho - Vandals
On October 1 Barry competed at the famous Bill Dellinger Invitational at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Barry place 17th against this strong NCAA field completing the course in a time of 24.11.81 over the 8km course. Barry was the leader for the Idaho squad.
Grace Annear - University of Victoria - Vikes
On September 24th Grace Annear competed at St Martins University an NCAA division two school in Lacy, Washington. Grace placed 4th with a time of 23.01over the 5km race and was the 3rd scorer of her team.
