It was a great summer for Run Jump Throw. For those still competing at Atlantics, Legions and Hershey, keep the momentum going!! I'll be off to PEI next week but I'll be back after the Marathon by the Sea to help everyone prepare for cross country in the fall!

This past week four New Brunswick athletes competed at the International Association of Athletics Federation World Junior Track and Field Championships held in Moncton, New Brunswick. Our own Caleb Jones competed in men’s javelin preliminaries and in the men’s final on day 4 and day 5. In the preliminary round Caleb through the javelin 69.36m to place 5th in his section and qualified for the final. In the final he through 69.77m which is a new personal best to finish 10th overall. Way to Go Caleb!!!
Genevieve Lalonde of Moncton competed in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and 1500m. Ryan Cassidy of Grand Digue competed in the men’s steeplechase. While Caleb Jones of Saint John competed in the men’s javelin and Fredericton’s Adam Gaudes was on the men’s 4x400m relay team.
Genevieve Lalonde started off New Brunswick’s participation on day 2 of the competition. She placed 2nd in the 2nd heat of the women’s 3000m steeplechase in a Canadian National Junior Record with a time of 10:03.88 . On day four Genevieve ran in the finals of the women’s 3000m steeplechase she placed 6th overall and broke her previous Canadian and establishes a new North American Junior record in a time of 9:57.74.
On the 5th day of the competition Genevieve competed in the women’s 1500m. She placed 6th overall in the 2nd heat of the preliminary race with a new personal best of 4:19.20 . Genevieve only missed the final by two spots.
Ryan Cassidy ran in the 3000m steeplechase preliminary race on day 5 of the competition. He finished 11th overall in the 2nd heat with a time of 9:11.70 . This is a very respectable time.
Adam Gaudes competed in the men’s 4x400m relay on day 6. He ran the 2nd leg of the relay. Adam ran a very strong leg passing two people in the process. Unfortunately Canada’s team was disqualified for an exchange violation.
These athletes represented their provinces and their countries very well this past week. They should be very proud of themselves. Athletics New Brunswick congradulates all participants and the local organisersfor a great event!
Jul 15 2010 - NB Legion Team Announced
Five Saint John Athletes on Provincial Legion Track & Field Team
This will be the second time attending for Nick, Matt and Alex, while the other local athletes are looking forward to their first national legion experience. A sixth athlete, Josh Shanks also was selected to the team but also qualified to attend the Hershey North American Final which his on the same weekend. Josh has chosen to attend the Hershey event as it is his last year of elligibility.

The 35 member team of 13 to 17 year olds will be competing at the 2010 Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field National Championships in Ottawa in August. The nationally sanctioned event is now divided into two sections - a three-day meet and a two-day clinic for the athletes. These events are attended by more than 330 athletes, 25 coaches and 35 chaperons. Started by the Royal Canadian Legion in the 1970’s it has become a national track and field program and an annual event funded by the Legion.

Saint John Track Athletes Chosen for Hershey North American Championships
Five NB athletes have qualified to compete in the 2010 Hershey North American Track & Field Championships in Hershey, PA in August, including three from the Saint John area.
Congratulations to SJTC athletes: Attending for his second time will be 14 year old Josh Shanks, who will compete in the boys13-14 1600m race. Joining him are Pierre Dumouchel who will compete in the 13-14 boys 800m
Also from Saint John area the boys will be joined by Sarah Kean who will compete in the 11-12 Girls 800m. Rounding out the team will be Andrew Leblanc and Jack Bershire from Fredericton both of whom are return to Hershey for the second time.
Hershey Foods Corporationcovers all expenses associated with this trip. The Hershey program is open to boys and girls aged 9-14 in all 50 states and across Canada. It is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize sportsmanship. It has become the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America with over 400,000 participants.

It was another big weekend as both the Canadian National Juniors and the Jeux de l'Acadie were on the same weekend. Both stadiums look great!! Be sure to check out the photos that I have posted on our track club page on facebook for the Jeux de l'Acadie. Bill mentioned the huge result from Caleb and I applaud all of our athletes who attended the Canadian Juniors. It looks like we have a new pole vault star. At the Jeux de l'Acadie, we had some great wins by Paul Tremblay, Anthony Cormier and Pierre DuMouchel.
I am very excited about the Atlantic Hersheys this Wednesday and please message me if you would like me to enter you or your child for next weekend's NB Open.
Pro Tip of the Week: Don't forget your staple workout to ensure that you have retained fitness. If you don't have a staple workout, you better get one:)

Caleb Jones Wins Gold at National Juniors - Sets new meet record with throw of 69.68 m.
SJTC Athlete, Caleb Jones won over the crowd with his awesome throws and set a new Canadian Junior Championships record. Caleb has now been officially selected to represent Canada as part of the national team for the Moncton 2010 World Juniors.

Also competing were Matt McNeil who ran to a PB of 4.11.89 in the 1500m, Mitchell Quigg who threw a personal best of 56.02 in the javelin, Alex Peabody with a 11.51 PB in the 100m and Tom Butler who competed to a strong 2.08.2. In addition Robin Bone (of Connecticut but with SJ roots) competed for SJTC in the pole vault to a bronze medal. Well done everyone...
Jul 1 2010 - Grandbay - Canada Day Races
Congrats to all who competed in the events in Grandbay.
A special congats to Club members Andrew Vail who won the 5 km in a personal best time of 18.36. Also in the 5 km winning the womens event was Renee Embree who will be helping coach the UNBSJ Cross Country teams this fall. Coach Alex Coffin lead the field in the 10 miler with a fast time of 54.18. A big congrats as well to Alexandra Coffin, Norah Emerson and Robert Scott
Well done everyone...Hope I didn't miss anyone.
