Apr 4 2010 - Track Athletes Shine at Atlantic Indoor Champs
Moncton N.B., March 27, 2010: Thirty-four members from the Saint John Track Club competed at the Atlantic Indoor Track Champs last weekend in Moncton. SJTC was the second largest club in attendance and placed second in the interclub competition. Local athletes & coaches ranging in ages 8-45 competed to 26 first place finishes and a total of 57 top 3 places.
Two club members set provincial records at the event. Katie Robinson lowered the 1200m record with her strong run finishing in a time of 4.11.13. Katie also won the girls 14-15 Shotput. Josh Shanks lowered his own 2000m record by 9 seconds setting a new mark of 6.26.10 and also won the 14-15 boys High Jump.
The club was led by a number of multiple event winners. Nick MacMackin won the 14-15 boys 200m, 300m, 800m & 1200m. Up and coming young track athlete, Cole Healey age 10 won the 600m, 1000m and Long Jump. Victoria Fowler won 14-15 girls 800m and 60m Hurdles. Anthony Cormier also competed strongly to win the boys 12-13 60m and 150m as well as placing a strong second in long jump with a personal best jump.
