SAINT JOHN - An army of athletes from the Saint John Track Club will soon compete on some big stages. Five members from the local club are off to the National Legion Championships in Sherbrooke, Que., Aug. 6-12, while eight are headed to the Hershey North American Track and Field Finals, which run today through Sunday in Hershey, Pa.

Jul 27 2008 - Atlantic Outdoor Track & Field Championships,

Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia:   The Saint John Track Club made a very strong showing at the Atlantic Track & Field Championships at this past weekend. Over 250 athletes from across Atlantic Canada competed in the full day event at Metropolitan Field in Lower Sackville, N.S. Almost all the SJ Track Club athletes in attendance recorded a personal best or two in this, the last major regional meet of the season.   Leading the club results was Caleb Jones who set a provincial record in the Men’s Juvenile Javelin with a throw of 60.51 metres. This throw breaks his NB record set back in early July.   In other men’s results, Nick MacMackin was a multiple winner with first place finishes in the bantam men’s 400m, 800m and with a personal best time of 4:36.87 in the 1500m. Alex Peobody led the field to win the Midget men’s 100m in a time of 11.86 and also placed 3rd in the 200m. Michael Campbell was the top junior men’s finisher in the 1500m with a season best and placed second in the 800m. Mike Robinson threw the javelin as the club’s lone Master’s participant and placed first with a distance of 37.34 metres. Also competing for the club were Tom Butler who achieve personal bests in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, Zach Peabody and Intekhab Houssain.   On the women’s side, Katie Robinson won the bantam women’s 800m with a personal best time of 2:32.49 and also took two second place finishes in the 100m and 400m. Shot Putter, Shannon Morris placed first in the Bantam Women’s shot event throwing 9.40 meters. Erin Kelly placed 3rd in the Midget Women’s 400m and Hilary Tomney placed 3rd in the Midget Women’s 300m hurdles. Other women competing for the club were Rachelle MacDonald in the sprints and long jump and Erica Forward who threw the javelin to a personal best distance of 27.82 metres.


Jul 27 2008 - Canadian Junior Championships

A total of 6 athletes from New Brunswick competed at the 2008 Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships in Abbotsford, BC.
Geneviève Lalonde (ASE/SEA) from Moncton finished 5th in the women’s 1500m in 4:26.96 a New Brunswick Juvenile & Junior outdoor record. Hampton's own Barry Britt (SJTC) finished 6th in the men's 5000m with a seasonal best time (15:18.93.) Sarah Macpherson (Fast track) was 7th in the 3000m with a new personal best time of 10:06.20. Jocelyn Lockhart (ASE/SEA) was 15th in the 1500m with a new personal best time 4:46.49. Jocelyn also competed in the 800m where she finished 20th (2:17.05). Adam Gaudes (Fast track) ran the 200m & 400m where he finished 31st and 21st. Marc Maillet (Club Élite) was 21st in the men's High jump.

Jul 19 2008 - 8 Club Athletes Going to Hershey North American Finals

Eight 4x100 relay runners from the Saint John Track Club area have been selected to compete at the Hershey North American Track & Field Finals in Hershey Pennsylvania from July 31st to August 3rd. Club members Anthony Cormier, Joshua Shanks, Benjamin Fowler, Alec Alston will compete together in the 11-12 Boys relay while Erin Kelly, Katie Robinson will be part of a 13-14 Girls relay and Trevor Floyd, Intekhab Hossain will fill out a Boys 13-14 relay team. Following the Hershey Atlantic finals in early July, Hershey representatives reviewed all the results and made selections. The eight from greater Saint John will be joined by eight from the Fredericton area, one from Nova Scotia and one from Newfoundland. These 18 Atlantic athletes are the largest group ever to attend from our region and will be the second largest team representing any province/state at the 2008 North American Final. All of the athletes qualified through their successful performances on 4x100m relay teams at the Atlantic Hershey Final in Lower Sackville, N.S.   Way to go!!!!


Jul 19 2008 - Five Club Athletes on Provincial Legion Team

36 athletes have been named to New Brunswick team to attend the 2008 National Legion Championships including five members of the Saint John Track Club athletes.   Rachelle MacDonald           - Saint John Chelsea Britt                         - Hampton Alex Peabody                       - Saint John Grace Annear                        - Hampton Caleb Jones                           - Saint John The team, of 13 to 17 year olds, will be competing at the 2008 Legion Nation Track and Field Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec in August with 300 of the best young athletes in Canada   Great job gang and congratulations.  


Jul 14 2008 - NB Outdoor Track Championships – Oromocto - July 11, 2008

  Athletes gathered for Athletics New Brunswick’s NB Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oromocto this past weekend. Younger members of the Saint John Track Club were multiple winners lead by Alec Alston in the Boys Aged 11 & under winning the 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump. Josh Shanks in the Boys aged 12-13 won the 400m, 800m and 1500m.   Two records fell during the competition to SJ club members. In the Juvenile boys Javelin Throw, Caleb Jones smashed the old record set by Andrew Blair in 2004 with a huge throw of 61.81m beating the old record by over 4 metres. Nick MacMackin aged-up to run in the competitive Midget 800m race and lowered his own provincial bantam 800m record to 2:09.77.   The club also had the following winners of their individual events. Grace Annear – Girls Aged 16-17 - Long Jump Chelsea Britt – Girls Aged 16-17 - Javelin Hilary Tomney - Girls Aged 14-15 – 300m Hurdles Mitch Quigg – Boys Aged 16-17 – High Jump Mike Robinson – Men 18+ - Javelin
